This program invites students to explore art’s meaning, purpose, and cultural impact through hands‑on projects, art history connections, mindfulness practices, and reflective journaling. The course emphasizes discovery, creativity, and joy rather than perfection.
Angie O’Neal — a lifelong artist with over 40 years of experience in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Angie helps students experiment, take creative risks, and discover their unique artistic voices.
The class runs from September 2025 through May 2026 (36 weeks). Each weekly session lasts about 60 minutes and follows a consistent structure: inspiration, warm‑up sketch, art project, and reflection.
Yes. The course includes four virtual museum visits spread across the year:
Students will build a year‑long sketchbook portfolio, record reflections from virtual museum visits, complete themed art projects, and design a personal final artwork with an accompanying artist statement.
Assessment is based on creative growth and portfolio completion, not traditional grades. Parents can use sketchbook work, museum journals, and the final showcase as documentation of progress.
At the end of May 2026, students complete a final artwork with a written artist statement and a reflection essay (“What does art mean to me now?”). Families are encouraged to host a Home Gallery Show to celebrate the student’s work.
Parents help by ensuring materials are available, setting up access to TED Talks and virtual tours, and encouraging students to keep up with their sketchbook and portfolio. Attending local galleries together is optional but highly encouraged.
No prior art training is needed. The course is appropriate for beginners as well as students who already enjoy drawing or painting.

Discovering Creativity: A Home school Art Journey with Angie O’Neal
Art is more than just a subject—it’s a way of seeing, feeling, and experiencing the world around us. This year, homeschool students have a wonderful opportunity to embark on an inspiring visual arts journey designed to spark curiosity, build skills, and nurture creativity
"There is no question that Authenticity is the key to being anything, and it is certainly the key to being an Artist. Suffering for ones Art, is certainly not necessary. I think working diligently and being consistent is. I don't consider that struggle. When you say struggle, that saids to me that something is being worked against. Why are you doing this, except that it's within you to do, and you can't see yourself doing anything else. There's no formulaic way for the unfoldment of ones' carreer...but as sure as you maintain and keep faith within your own self, you won't be daunted by appearances, and you won't give up!" -Phylicia Rashad
" The #1 lesson that I can offer is this, become so skilled, so vigilant, so flat out FANTASTIC at what you do, that your talent CANNOT be dismissed. And finally, this, this will save you, STOP comparing yourself to others" -Oprah
"The energy of your intention is what determines your life. Time is not refundable, use it with intention"
-Madi Parkinson
